On Friday I'll be going away with Nastya for a long weekend. I was originally planning to release missions for GMs before then. Even though I think that's still possible, it would be pretty risky. I wouldn't have time to thoroughly test everything so there could be a lot of serious bugs. Normally that's not a big issue because I'm around to fix problems as soon as they occur. But being away will make this impossible (Nastya will kill me if I spent our weekend working!). So I've decided it'll be better to wait until I'm back. The ETA is now sometime Tuesday (or possibly Wednesday) next week.

You have to remember, most of your players are 10-13 year olds that want nothing but instant gratification.

So basically if we're selfless drones sucking Admin's cock every chance we get then we're "good players" that "contribute to the community". I bought myself Gold for a few months, I contributed, not saying that I'll instantly need missions though I will say it'd be nice to have them, and I'm glad he's given us an ETA that he'll hopefully stick to.

I hope missions will be more in depth than the initial base we had in 2D.
Will this be apart from indoors? with indoors and/or barricades? or is everything going to be an individual update.

ReplyDeleteWell, seeing as how Admin has different release dates for Interiors and missions, they will most likely not be released on the same day unless we get a surprise. On top of that, indoors DOES NOT include barricades because, again, there are different deadlines.
Now, this is an instance where I hope I'm wrong, but I know that it will be too much coding to have all of this done at once. So they will be individual updates. Hope I helped :3

I was hopeful that we would get them both together, but hopefully missions will pass the time till indoors and baricades come out.
Also, I am not a moderator, I am a regular player, and the gauss is not in the elite shop it is a custom I got while I was a mod.
Anyways.
hopefully well get more detailed information on whats coming with the clan system. but it's going to be a long few months waiting for that and the pary and social systems etc.
Im new to this blog and have to say that this game is AWESOME!!!! I have had the GM since February and love it! I am very impressed and eagerly await the missions! Keep up the great work!! This game is far better then the other zombie net games out there so you are at the front lines Adminpwn well done!

ReplyDeleteAs for missions, I don't ever recall the bugs for missions being very bad, why not release missions before the holiday and come back and fix whatever is wrong? I imagine everything wrong would be found in that time. plus wed get to play around with it all and not bother anyone....

I like how this all ended up focusing on kissing ass... I think this is a great game, and I'm excited for missions, as well as barricading, and everything else that is to come to this game. I don't think it matters what someone's opinion is toward Admin, all they are doing is expressing their opinion (however, negative comments are really lame), and those being called ass kissers are just people who really appreciate what they've been given and want to show it. No man is god, but it doesn't hurt to let him know that what he's doing is really cool.

ReplyDeleteThe reason he raised the xp limit was because you get way more xp in 3D, and then the missions will be an even bigger boost towards xp. So, if the xp was still the same, everyone would be shooting straight up to 200. Or pretty damned close, within a short amount of time. With the doubled xp, it'll take some time actually, instead of allowing everyone to just pop up there. And then, there's the elite shop being opened to all 200's permanently. You don't want a huge group of people shooting to that, and having a huge surge of people with dusk gear, now do ya?
Reznorock has a good point. Why not just release missions before you go? Are we not in an Open Beta? Does that not make us Beta Testers? I'm sure the community will find the bugs, and leave feedback. Either way 1 week isn't that long to wait.

ReplyDeleteDusk gear's lowest price is $500,000. No noob is going to have a dusk weapon. The dusk shop should be open to anyone at anytime. Pwn should put the cap level at 400 and any level after level 200 get nothing. Whats the point of having dusk gear if you can't get anymore EXP? ReplyDeleteActually, what you know is a bunch of theory about game design/development. If you actually think you're going to make $4M/year, you're deluding yourself and need to analyze your situation a bit closer.
Also, if you are confident enough in your l337 $k!11z that you provide someone with a hard deadline of when something is going to be done, you're crazy. When you're developing something (game, app, whatever), things rarely go as planned and time lines rarely go unbroken, trust me, I've been there.
So, lay off Adminpwn, he's been busting his ass for the past 3 years now and has come up with a pretty kickass game...yes it'll be nice when missions/interiors get done, but, you can't expect Neil to give up his life outside DF to placate a bunch of whining neophytes that have nothing better to do than bitch at him for missing deadlines.

Thats $420 million. The development team only gets 25%, thats $105 millions. There are 30 people on that development team. So that means each of them got $3,500,000. It hasn't even been a year and they are making MW3. And i didn't even add the 3 Map packs that sold 3 million each for $15 each. Get my point?

Its true, a game developer bissnis is a very hard job! I know a guy, who is called Over00 and he is a game developer. He makes great games (like Golemizer but needs a little better graphics) but he is almost broke. Game developing is extrordenerly hard and takes a lot of time and ussually doesn't pay off. So let's make the best of AdminPwn's situation and suport him on his choices as much as we can!

Hey guy's you are saying that you are game developers, and you are complaining about the money. I know it by first hand. In my country a professional who makes and animates 3D models is get about 3000$\month salary. This is more than 6 times more than the salary of an ordinary worker. If you are working for large companies in a GOOD A category team then you get get nearly 10 times more every month.

He earn 3000$ at every month. I want to be a game developer. It's quiet heavy to get between the grand ones. But if you got in then you do not have to worry about the money. It's not the world's best paying job but quiet good.

1. You're talking about one of the most successful game franchises out there. Saying that you're going to be working on something as successful as that is like saying you're definitely going to win the lottery.
2. I don't know the exact setup of team behind COD, but normally it's something like this. Shop or website sells game for $40. Of that publisher makes about $15 after cost of sales. Of that the developer gets maybe $7. And then there is the issue on what kind of funds were needed to actually develop the game in the first place and how they are going to be repaid. Suffice to say, it's not as simple as "developer gets 25%" and in 95% of cases they end up none of the profit beyond their initial advance (which was used to pay their normal salaries during development).
3. Any profit generated is not going to be split evenly among the team. Chances are even if they made $50m profit, the owner(s) of the studio will keep $49m to themselves, and maybe give out a bonuses with the other $1m.
So in conclusion, unless you own one of the most successful game development studios in the world, you'll be unlucky to make more than a standard game development salary, which is anywhere in the $20k to $80k range normally, plus if you're lucky a yearly bonus or stock options worth maybe about $30k. The upper end of course is only for those who are damn good at their job and have worked extremely hard for probably 10-20 years. Most graduates of the type of course you are in will never work in the game industry, not even in a low level position.
Also want to point out that the core development team for COD4 was more like 100 people.

The other thing I only saw one person say, was that the development team doesn't really get 25%. The workers just have a normal salary, and its decent, but its not a high paying job. Its the publishers that get all the money. Developers make anywhere from 60-130k a year plus bonuses. But thats all AAA title talk. For something smaller, like DF, Admin pretty much gets most of it. But you have to remember he has to pay for server etc.

ReplyDeleteFor the most part, people who go into the game design profession as developers DO NOT do it for the money. Those who think they'll make it big are, frankly, deluded. Right out of school you'll be lucky to find a job unless you've interned heavily or have other connections.
To this effect, I too am going to college to get a BA in Game Production. Why am I taking a game design course? I love games so much I want to make working on them my job. By this I do not mean "I love playing games". I mean I spend most of my time with them. I mean I love everything about them, disseminating game mechanics, examining player-based markets, spending hours with games seeing where things break and breaking them down to get a feel for how levels and mechanics were designed. I decided my major with the full knowledge that it was a long shot and with full knowledge that I'm completely devoted to the field and video games as a whole. I decided to do it because I want to be part of something I love and get paid for it, regardless of if it pays well.
tl;dr
Don't go in it for the money, go in it because it's your passion.

ReplyDeleteDude the game is glitching up so bad. Every 10 minutes it crashes and internet explorer restarts it does it on both of my computers so its got to be the game. Also I see people appear out of know where and disappear again over and over again. I have died so many times from these glitchs I cant make it to mP13 without it glitching then I die because my character will walk by himself or when im in inventory it will mess up and zombies attack me. Im not trying to complain just letting you know so you can fix them. This is an awesome game dude thank you for all your hard work. I can see this game geting very popular. TY
ReplyDeletewell i havent been into the inner city in a while but if ur using internet explorer it probably will do that lol cuz ur comps prolly just slow, or u lose connection and enter single player then characters pop out when u enter multiplayer and then single and then multiplayer again that might be the problem, however, i havent been into inner city so maaybe they are glitches

Yes I am refering to the NEWEST update to Unity which was outlined in this very Blog last month, behind missions, interiors, and a few other things. I lag terribly in the innercity, even though according to task manager and my connection it's not on my end 90% of the time. My DESPERATE Hope is that the unity update and non browser caching will eliminate most if not all my lag issues.

He(She?) also comments on the delay of the missions that all of the players seem to want equally in a manner that was significantly less rude and more mature than the majority of other players' methods. (He's not cursing or yelling at the administrator of pwning and I certainly don't remember him calling names or being a "bully" or "hater.")

AdminPwn says one thing to him about how he won't be successful and that he'll be unemployed and everyone (not literally, but, you know) hops on his *carrot* (or any other phallus-shaped object that you might prefer) and agrees with him, as if they know that a certain snake zombie thingy will fail at life because "Admin knows all".
4. And so apparently, that qualifies as UndeadSnake being "owned?"
Now, for all you know, this could just be UndeadSnake using a puppet account, but whatever. I don't claim to know more than anyone else, because frankly, I don't. But I do know that everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone is entitled to their own hopes and aspirations. Ridiculing UndeadSnake because they think they'll be an awesome dev is wrong. PS: Pwn's reason for not having missions ready isn't because he burned his hands pulling a little girl out of a fire. No. Its because he is on vacation. So I have a right to be very upset because (in his on words more or less) he won't be able to go on vacation without us paying for this game.

Now, on to other issues...I totally agree with what HeirApparent said about not defending Neil or UndeadSnake. Hell, Neil even said 'I don't want to hear any comments taking pity on me or telling me that I deserve to take it easy etc. It's time to cut the bulls**t and get some work done.' (June 18, 2011). So, to that end, it's time that Neil get off his ass and get some shit done.
I know that sounds like I'm being a dick, but I'm not. I'm a developer and I know that sometimes it takes that kind of 'tough love' to get you motivated to get things done.
I also agree (somewhat) with what UndeadSnake said in his last comment...'The players make this game something, not AdminPwn. Without us he would have nothing but empty space on the internet.'...I agree that it's the players that make games popular, but, let us not forget that it's the developers make the games...
Also, every developer/designer/artist hits a plateau from time to time where they find it hard to find the motivation to take the project(s) to the 'next level' (e.g. new features, massive overhauls, even simple bug fixes)...as I said, I've been there. So, that being said, maybe a vacation from DF is exactly what Neil needs to be able to reinvigorate himself so he can come back refreshed and start banging out updates. We all know that this game is something special (imho, it's the best zompocalypse survival game out there). We have to remember though, DF is still in 'Open Beta' so we have to expect that there are going to be bugs/glitches, limited feature set etc., etc../rant

So that when I get out of college I get say 'I worked with So and So well you hire me?' All the college does is provide me with a TON of high end computers and gives me connections with game producers.

$8 is something now. Not two years ago! The economy sucks. Have you not read any of my post. My parents bought most of my stuff. I'm 18, in college. Now I got to buy everything myself AND AS I SAID if I give you a penny for something I want that something or my money back. The amount of money doesn't matter its the being robed that matters. Yes he robed me. He said 1st of August. Now 1st is the 10th. So 10 days have been robed from me. I don't play DF that much. I heard that there was going to be missions so I bought a GM AND GOT NO MISSIONS!!

Undead, DF is in open Beta - GM's get to test new game additions before non-paying members, but all content is eventually released to non-paying members.
ReplyDeleteAdmin has always said the mission completion dates given were estimations - no promises were made, so no promises were broken. You were not robbed.
You chose to become a GM knowing that missions were currently unavailable and that the availability date given was an estimation - that's on you. If you only wanted GM to be able to access missions early, you should have waited until you saw missions were available to Gold members before joining.
...And it needs to be said, at 18, you're an adult. If $8/month is such a make-or-break amount for you that you need to make this much of a fuss about it, you need to re-prioritize - especially if you don't play that much. This game shouldn't come before necessities.
8$ is a whole hour of ur life :p if u work.... and if admin got selected to develop battlefield 3 then who knows when DF will finish...........

ReplyDeleteNot siding with undeadsnake or anything, but GM doesn't go far in DF, and the only thing Undeadsnake considered worth those 8$ he didn't get. Naturally anyone would be annoyed that they aren't getting what they think they paid for, whether it's double EXP or early access to missions.
ReplyDeleteHe is being a child about it, Since admin says quite often that all dates are estimates. And there wasn't 100% chance that he would release them when undeadsnake bought GM.
However there was also no 100% guarantee that admin wouldn't double the EXP needed to level to make what GMs were paying for completely useless. So then why should you guys have a right to complain that you weren't getting what you paid for, if he can't? (Although he did take it to extremes)
i still think admin should have made more xp when missions where finally out so right now i am not going to play till missions are 95% done. btw that i mean the bugs only

I love the perks that come with it, since I don't have a lot of time to spend playing this game. I play whenever I get done with work. Or weekends.

well i think maybe theres a few errors in the game that maybe fixed in the future

2) Wall 500 as the same graph than other shotguns and hasnt buttstock
3) All rifles have the same graph like m 21 and garand (i would really love a mauser with the adecuate graph)
4) Saiga and Usan have the same graph
5) 16 gauge shootguns just reach a 4 shell gun ??? maybe admin can do something about that idk a 8 shell loadout ?

@ yea i agree with u on the skins we need new skins when the player is holding the weapons and throw in a few useful 16 gauge weapons, maybe some lever action shotguns :D that shoot like the sega or even faster who knows.......

ReplyDeletedont forget that shootguns can use all shells i mean a shotgun can use a 12 16 or 20 since the shell its the same the prob its the bullets 12 gauge = 12 bullets (larger) 16 gauge = 16 bullets 20 gauge 20 bullets and so on theres some specialized sguns that use weird cartridges or ammo but as i see thats not the case, anyways admin can do something about it maybe (would attract new players) and furthermore i think the lack of the molotov its bad!!! the molotov its the clasic antizombie weapon , i know it improves the infect but hehehehe who cares maybe they can flee and give time :P
