My wife, son and I were planning to go and visit family in Russia for a month on the 20th of July. My aim was to continue to work on Dead Frontier 3D on my laptop while we were there. Unfortunately now that I've arrived in Russia I've discovered the software I need to work on DF3D isn't working properly on my laptop. This will make getting anything done while I'm here practically impossible.
In light of this I've changed my holiday plans. My wife and son will stay in Russia for a month, but I'm going to come home early after 1 week so I can get the next demo ready. Of course, this will still mean a delay of about a week. Sorry guys.
Oh jeez if its a personal life than dont go changing for us. Your doing this on your own and family should go first. If you do still leave than all best of luck with finishing 3D.

ReplyDeleteGentlemen, I have come from the future. Admin will release the game for us. Left 4 dead 6 is out but the anticipated 3d version of Dead Frontier has made everyone happy. Although not outstanding graphics for its age, people finaly have enjoyment with their 3d models. Don't worry, the full 3d comes out 2025.

Neil probably doesn't even read our comments. But if I had to share my own opinion then I would say that he should stay in Russia with his family. Towards the people who complain about the delays: It's a game. Find something else to do like hang with your own family. Also don't say your just mad at the delays but not with Neil. but i think the real reason is he might be a little strapped on cash. which would be devastating on him if he was saving up for that trip to russia.
whoever is complaining about slow progress for the game, go and try tracing and troubleshooting through thousands of lines of code. its not just a simple hack to fix the simplest of bugs. even if you know what caused it, you have to keep in mind all the variables or behaviours of objects it can alter to fix the bug. guess why vista is so buggy and thats the o/s (albeit simpler than DF but still...) you get with all might and power of Microsoft. He's one guy.
@Neil: If you're tight spot, just look to Andrew Gower of Runescape for some inspiration. If not then ...you clearly doing an awesome job to be able to code all of DF by yourself. take it easy and enjoy your vacation

I've not once seen Admin promise us something and then cancel it. I'll admit they always didn't get here on time but they still got here. Admin works too hard for many people he doesn't even know. Admin's son is a toddler.. he changed his class to Father when his son was born so if DF started around 2008 then he would have to be between 1 and 2 years old.

ReplyDeleteI personally wouldn't mind if 3D DF never gets released as I think the game right is already quite interesting. However even I'm a bit ticked off by Admin's consistent failure to keep his promises. By delaying almost every single release date, it isn't as damaging to the players as it is to Admin's own liability. You have to see that DF is Admin's source of income and therefore making the game is his job, and right now he's failing to making most of his deadlines while offering some sort of excuse each time (some may be real). I think it's natural for those who are affected to be angry. Those who said people who complain are immature, remember that being mature also means being responsible for your promises aka backing your words with actions.
ReplyDeleteJust looked at Bazzare's poll on DF forum, and yes if you look at the poll only, most people say it's ok for Admin to stay in Russia. But if actually read the posts, you can see a lot more people are upset with this (many high lvls and GMs), though they are not exactly demanding anything (many already gave up on Admin meeting his promised release dates).
ReplyDeleteI don't think this is really a matter to be upset over. Unless he said he was 100% sure that he would definitely beyond a doubt have it ready at a specific time and date, which he didn't.
ReplyDeleteWhat some people need to learn is a thing called patience. Some people also need to learn how to read better, as, from what I've read, any dates he's given were very vague and definitely not set in stone. Admin didn't once promise he'd have this thing out a specific date.
People are very greedy, and about half of you already have backed that statement up. The guy's put a lot of hard work into this thing and all a lot of you can think of is how a possible release period was delayed. I think Admin should be thanked and left alone get the work done without all of this unneeded pressure.

To anyone complaining about a week's delay: you are pathetic. This is a video game. This man is going to be without his wife and son for three weeks because of this game. Show some respect for Neil. He's working as hard as he can, and he thought the software was on his laptop. Everyone makes mistakes.
To whoever it was that said only the GMs are the ones telling him to enjoy his vacation out in Russia and stay for the month: don't you think we'd be more upset? I mean, we've spent good money on this game. Think of it like this- a delay is insurance that it WILL be better.

For the people telling the non-gms that it's not hard to wait, well IMO I think most of us can not wait since it's summer! Summer = eXtra eXtra eXtra computer game play time, and as its probably true that 70-90% (or w/e the percentage) or DF players are under 18, school is right around the corner. School = eXtra eXtra eXtra homework time.

ReplyDeleteKid makes a point. Many want to see a release soon because of school/college starting up. I work year round, so when classes start up again, I'll have a job and college and won't have enough time to hop on DF or whatever else.
Sure, I hope you enjoy your time in Russia (my homeland!), and you have done a phenomenal job on the game so far. Take your time, make it good, it is just important that other people realize the motives of others. No one wants him to work on the game so he can have a miserable life. No one thinks the they can do better (most people), or think the game is horrible without 3D (personally I want sync issues fixed and the ability to meet in the city more than 3D). Some simply will not always have the opportunity to enjoy Yates' incredible creation. Soon they won't have the chance, and more discontent will ensue.
Everyone, please be understanding. Many opinions have been stated, many repeatedly. Almost every side has been met with hostility. The only hostility that should be shared on this blog is towards flesh-eating infected undead. So be patient, with Yates and each other, we will get through this, and soon we will all be in 3D and Yates can go to Russia for a year while we enjoy his creation

After discovering this game it gave me joy to play it, but I could only play for about 1 hour a week. I am in summer vacation right now and I was hoping I could play in 3d, before I return to school in 2 weeks. I had expectations but since admin kept pushing the date farther and farther it made me feel meloncholy.

I first would like to say that I am very appreciative of everything Neil has done for this game, but people have to remember this pretty much his job. Do you know how much any parent or adult would give to actually go on a vacation like that? They would give a lot, and people can go on vacations like that, but you can only take so many days from work.
